Remember the old white and yellow (or even pink) pages?
They were the massive tomes we turned to when we needed to find a local business.
Now we use the internet.
So if you have a business, you need to be online for potential customers to find you.
Directory Listings are like an online yellow pages, where customers could search for your service or product and then could click on your business name to get your contact details or to visit your website. If only it was that easy.
Firstly, that relies on the customer to use a dominant directory for their service or product needs. Secondly, you need to know which directory to list your business.
The offerings from the various Australian Business Directories are a mixed bag. Some will list your business for free and some will take an annual fee.
Should you pay to list your business in a directory and will it help with SEO?
If you are a tradesperson then I would suggest you definitely consider one of the big directory listing websites. If you are a service provider then I would take a look at the competition already on the directory you are looking at and see if you can find out statistics for your competitors when you get called from the directory sales person.
Will a Directory listing help with your SEO?
Yes and No. It may show your business on the Directory website as a page 1 google search result so you may get increased referral traffic from your Directory listing but it will not boost your own Website's performance.
Spend your money wisely, do your research before you sign up and if possible make sure your website is included in the listing so that your website can give the potential customer more information on why they should contact you and your business.
